How far do low beams shine?
I’ve been trying to figure out how far low beams shine because I’m buying a cabin out in a rural area. However, I have one neighbor, and I don’t want to wake him up by turning on my brights. How far do low beams typically shine?

That’s awfully neighborly of you to avoid turning on your brights. The good news is that even low beams can usually guide you through the darkness at slow speeds. How far low beams shine varies by car, but according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, low beams typically shine about 160 feet.
Specialized low beams, such as xenon headlights or headlights with high-lumen output may increase this distance up to about 300 feet. However, these are aftermarket options that probably aren’t worth the extra cash unless you’re determined that you absolutely need them.
Just go slow, look for wildlife, stay on your driveway, and you shouldn’t have any issues.
