Your Acura
radio code is an added security measure that comes into play whenever your battery dies or becomes disconnected. Once you reboot your battery and turn your 2011 MDX on, the radio unit won’t work until you enter a short numeric code, better known as the radio code.
In the 1990s, stereos were the most frequently stolen car component. Since the resale value of stereos is not what it used to be, radio theft is largely unheard of today. However, most Acura stereo systems are still equipped with a radio code.
With this in mind, it’s a good idea to know how to find your Acura MDX radio code in case your battery ever fails—especially since driving just isn’t the same without your regular radio station turned up!
How to find your 2011 Acura MDX radio code
Before finding your radio code, it’s helpful to know what you’re looking for! The radio code is always five digits and listed on a sticker labeled “Anti-Theft Radio Code.”
If you discover two series of numbers listed on the sticker, the second series of numbers is the radio serial number.
There are several places your 2011 Acura MDX radio code may be located. Here are some places to look:
Open the glove box and check the inside wall for the radio code decal
Reference the anti-theft ID card in the owner’s manual or the car’s maintenance journal
Look on the door jamb or trunk jamb
Look on the underside of the engine compartment fuse box cover
How to look up a 2011 Acura MDX radio code
If the radio code is still at large, you need to look it up using your Acura's vehicle identification number (VIN)
and the radio serial number. The VIN is a 17-digit numeric code that is unique to your vehicle. There are a few spots where you can find the VIN—look at your insurance card, registration paperwork, Acura Financial Services statement, the sticker on the driver’s door jamb, or the stamp on the base of the windshield.
Find the radio serial number by looking for the “Anti-Theft Radio Code” sticker inside the glove compartment—there should be a ten-digit number on this decal. This is the radio serial number!
If there’s no sticker or code in the glove compartment, follow these steps to get the code from the radio display:
Turn the radio ON—the display should read CODE. If this message doesn’t appear, pull the backup fuse for 1 minute. Then, start again from the beginning
Turn the radio device OFF
Press and hold the 1 and 6 radio preset buttons and turn the radio device ON
Then, you should see a “U” followed by four numbers—these are the first four digits of the serial number
The second screen should display an “L” followed by the last four digits of the serial number
The serial number is the eight-digit code containing the first four numbers plus the last four numbers—disregard the “U” and the “L”
Once you have the serial number and the VIN, you can do one of the following to retrieve your radio code:
Call Acura Customer Service at (800) 382-2238. This line is open Monday through Friday between 6:00 am and 5:00 pm Pacific Time. Be prepared to provide the serial number and VIN.
Visit Acura's online lookup tool
and enter your serial number and VIN to retrieve your radio code.
