If that doesn’t mean anything to you, then let’s break it down. Bolt patterns (also called lug patterns) are expressed as:

# of bolts x the diameter of the circle they form

So, a 5x4.5bolt pattern tells you that the rim has five lugs, arranged in a circle that is 4.5 inches in diameter.

There are a handful of other measurements that you will need if you want to make sure you get the correct rims for your Maxima. In addition to the lug pattern, you’ll need to know the stud size, wheel offset, center bore measurement and torque specifications:

The above specifications should be enough to get your Maxima’s new wheels sorted out, but if you want to know how to measure bolt patterns for yourself, there’s a handy trick you should know. All you’ll need is a tape measure or ruler.

If the wheel has an even number of lugs, you just measure from the center of one lug hole to the center of the opposing lug. However, if there are five lugs, then you can eliminate any guesswork by measuring from the outside edge of one lug hole to the center of one of the opposing holes.
