The 2007 Honda Odyssey can comfortably seat up to 8 passengers, making a great family hauler, but keeping it running requires the right amounts of the right kind of oil. The Odyssey comes equipped with your choice of two engines, both with an oil capacity of 4.5 quarts or 4.3 liters.
Keeping up with your 2007 Honda Odyssey’s oil changes is one of the best ways to avoid unexpected maintenance costs. Older vehicles like the Odyssey come with the expectation of added expense for maintenance and repairs, but following a routine allows them to be good as new.
If you want a bit more information about how proper engine oil maintenance can extend your Honda Odyssey’s life, Jerry

—a breeze. 2007 Honda Odyssey engine oil capacity
If you want to keep your Odyssey’s oil at the right levels, you need to know how much oil to put in it in the first place.
Even though the 3.5-liter engine in the upper-trim Odysseys is built a bit differently, they still have the same oil capacity of 4.5 quarts or 4.3 liters as the lower trims.
What kind of oil does a 2007 Honda Odyssey need?
Now that you know how much oil you should be putting into your 2007 Honda Odyssey, you need to know what kind of oil it takes. Regardless of trim, Honda recommends drivers use SAE 0W-20 Honda Genuine Motor Oil in their cars.
Honda used a synthetic blend when developing the Odyssey’s engines, so you should also use a synthetic oil over conventional oil
to keep it running at peak efficiency. Though conventional oil is likely to be cheaper, it can end up costing you more in repairs since your Odyssey wasn’t built to use it. That said, if you can’t find Genuine Honda Motor Oil, any brand full synthetic or synthetic blend 0W-20 oil will work. You should look for a full synthetic with a “high mileage” rating—such as Mobil 1 Extended Performance High Mileage 0W-20 Motor Oil—since your Odyssey is on the older side. This includes additives suited for engines with more wear and tear than new cars.
How often to change the oil on a 2007 Honda Odyssey
Honda recommends changing the oil
in your Odyssey every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. If you don’t find yourself driving very often, you should aim to change your oil at least twice a year. In addition to including an oil change in your Honda's basic car maintenance schedule
, you should also check your engine oil levels at least once a month. To check your oil level, follow these steps: Wipe the dipstick on a rag.
Reinsert the dipstick without screwing it in.
Check that the oil level registers between the upper and lower limits marked on the dipstick.

How to change your oil
Keeping up with your oil changes is a great way to save money on your car expenses. Don’t worry, it’s a lot easier than you might think!
You’ll need to gather a few things before you get started:
5 quarts of 0W-20 oil and replacement filter
Before you begin, ensure your engine is warm—this will make the oil drain easily and completely. Once your car is warm, it’s time to get to work:
Get underneath the engine and remove the oil drain bolt and washer, draining the old oil into the drain pan
Remove the old oil filter and continue to let the oil drain
Replace the oil drain bolt using a new washer and tighten it to 29 lb-ft
Refill the engine with your new oil and replace the fill cap
And voila! You’re all done. Now, what to do with that old oil? To dispose of used oil, pour it into a plastic or metal container with a tightly-sealed lid, and take it to a recycling center. If you’re not sure where to recycle your oil, you can search locations to recycle used automotive fluids on Earth 911
. Pro Tip: Do NOT dump the oil on the ground or put it in the garbage. This is not only terrible for the environment but it’s also illegal in most states.
