Porsche’s first and only compact SUV model is the Porsche Macan
, which they unveiled in 2014 following the success of the midsize Porsche Cayenne
. The compact Macan shares the same platform as the Audi Q5, and a Porsche Macan EV is expected for the 2024 model year. The 2023 Porsche Macan is the smallest of Porsche’s two SUV models, but the Cayenne still maintains higher popularity. However, if you’re looking for a finite amount of space from this luxurious automaker, the Macan is your best bet. You may even want to keep your checkbook closed til the 2024 EV variant is released in 2024!

! 2023 Porsche compact SUV models
Porsche only currently offers one small SUV model—the 2023 Porsche Macan
. A compact Porsche Macan EV will be based on the same EV platform as the Audi A6 e-tron and released in 2024. 2023 Porsche Macan ($57,500 MSRP)
The base model of the 2023 Porsche Macan is the most affordable of Porsche’s current line-up—not that affordability is something most Porsche buyers are likely keying on. Even this entry-level model offers a lot to love, from a 5-second 0-60 mph time to a 144 mph top speed.
The base Macan engine is a 261-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four. It’s a Volkswagen TSI engine, and it’s the most fuel-efficient Macan powertrain available—not that that’s saying all that much with only 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. The standard drivetrain is an all-wheel drive (AWD) system paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Highlights of the Macan include:
Available Sport Chrono Package for enhanced performance
Plenty of standard safety tech, including adaptive cruise control
Standard front and rear parking sensors
Standard navigation system
Abundant luxurious features
Apple CarPlay connectivity, but no Android Auto
Unimpressive fuel economy
Sporty styling compromise interior space
2023 Porsche Macan T ($63,100 MSRP)
The Porsche Macan T (for “Touring”) is a new trim for 2023. It comes with the same powertrain as the base model but adds a standard Sport Chrono package. This package includes a steering wheel driving mode switch, launch control, and a stopwatch so you can record everything from your drag times to your rush hour commute home.
The Macan T also gets a custom metallic exterior finish, its own unique exterior badging, and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM).
Highlights of the Macan T include:
Standard Sport Chrono performance upgrade
Optional retuned torque-vectoring system
Unique heated sport seats and heated GT sport steering wheel
Performance upgrade doesn’t make a huge difference
2023 Porsche Macan S ($68,400 MSRP)
The Porsche Macan S gets the first engine upgrade—a 375-hp 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 TFSI—resulting in a nearly $11,000 bump in price compared to the base model.
The Sport Chrono Package can be added to the Macan S at an extra charge, resulting in a zero-to-60 mph acceleration boost from 4.6 seconds to 4.4 seconds. With summer tires, the Macan S can reach a higher top track speed of 160 mph.
Highlights of the Macan S include:
Active Suspension Management
Even worse on gas—17/23 mpg (city/hwy)
Sport Chrono Package costs extra
Nearing the price of a larger, better Cayenne
2023 Porsche Macan GTS ($72,900 MSRP)
The Macan GTS is the top trim of the 2023 Porsche Macan lineup and incorporates another engine upgrade that bumps the twin-turbo V6 up to 434 horsepower.
It’s also available with a Sport Package of its own which includes all the Sport Chrono upgrades, a firmer suspension, an appearance package, 18-way adaptive sport seats, upgraded tires, and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus.
Highlights of the Macan GTS include:
4.1-second 0-60 time with Sport Package
More expensive than a Porsche Cayenne
Highway mileage reduced to 22 mpg
2024 Porsche Macan EV (~$80,000 MSRP)
The Porsche Macan EV will be an all-new Porsche model based on the new Audi A6 e-tron electric vehicle platform. It’s expected to have a longer range than the Porsche Taycan—the automaker’s current EV offering, but not much else about the new Porsche Macan EV is known.
