is one of the most popular compact SUVs on the road today. It offers drivers a comfortable ride, it’s reliable, and it’s a class leader in fuel economy and passenger and cargo space. It boasts 75.8 cubic feet of total cargo space and has a fuel economy of 28 mpg city and 34 mpg highway. Keep in mind that the list of standard features on the base trim, the LX, is slim. The LX comes with cloth upholstery, a 5-inch display, a four-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, and automatic climate control. We’d suggest opting for the EX-L trim, which is priced just a few thousand dollars more, for leather upholstery, an eight-speaker stereo, and a power-adjustable passenger seat.
3. Mazda CX-5
Starting price: $25,900 to $38,650
Selling points: Elegant interior; long list of safety features; excellent handling
Weak spot: Cramped rear seats and subpar cargo space

It boasts 74.2 total cubic feet of cargo space, and its seats are roomy and comfortable.It’s also fuel efficient. The Forester gets 26 mpg city and 33 mpg highway.
The cherry on top? The Forester is a capable off-road vehicle. All-wheel-drive comes standard in every model, as well as at least 8.7 inches of ground clearance. Opting for the Wilderness trim will get you a ground clearance of 9.2 inches, as well as the capacity to tow up to 3,000 pounds.
That said, the Forester’s four-cylinder engine feels a touch underpowered at times. If you’re looking for an SUV that’s as fun to drive on the road as off, you might want to look elsewhere.
5. Ford Bronco Sport

If you need to carry even more stuff, opting for the Adventure trim with all-wheel-drive will allow you to tow up to an impressive 3,500pounds.
Like the Ford Bronco Sport, the RAV4 is not as upscale as some of its competitors. Its engine is a bit whiney under harsh acceleration, and it’s not as fun to drive as, say, the

Its interior feels classy, it has plenty of room—its maximum cargo hold is 65.3 cubic feet in the third-row models and 73.4 in two-row models—and it comes with plenty of features. It does have a few drawbacks. Its fuel economy is subpar for its class—23 mpg city and 30 mpg highway—and its turbocharged four-cylinder engine leaves a little something to be desired. Its acceleration can be a bit slow. If you’re looking for a sporty ride, you’ll be let down by the Tiguan, but if you’re looking for a cruising vehicle that can transport a lot of people, you may have met your match.
8. Chevrolet Equinox
Starting price: $25,800 to $32,600
Selling points: Great predicted reliability; spacious interior

—but don’t take this the wrong way, it’s still a good buy! The Equinox has a roomy cabin, while it may look a bit outdated or, dare we say, cheap. It has a high predicted reliability rating—J.D. Power rates it 85 out of 100, which is considered great.
It offers a comfortable ride, though its engine performance is not as good as some of its rivals. It also doesn’t have as much cargo space—it holds a maximum of 63.9 cubic feet.
Still, if you want a reliable vehicle that will get the job of getting to and from the office done, you’ll be satisfied with the Equinox.
