If you live in Las Vegas
or the Reno/Sparks area, you’re in luck! The Department of Transportation (DOT) operates the Freeway Service Patrol (FSP) program in these metro areas, so roadside assistance is free! The DOT partnered with GEICO who funds the FSP program. The FSP’s mission is to reduce highway congestion and improve highway safety in Nevada. To accomplish this, the FSP offers free roadside assistance to drivers in the Las Vegas and Reno/Sparks metro areas.
If you’re outside of these areas, Nevada still has you covered. Call “511” to get free roadside assistance through the Department of Transportation. Keep in mind that if you are in a metro area, the DOT may direct FSP workers to help you out.
FSP workers fulfill these basic services:
Clearing debris from the highway after an accident
Extinguishing vehicle fires
Offering first aid to injured motorists
Working with law enforcement to make incident reports
As you can probably guess, the FSP has been very successful, responding to 55,000 incidents every year! On average, the FSP workers clear up most accidents within fifteen minutes.
How do you get FSP to come to your aid? It’s simple. Just dial “647” or “911” and FSP workers or the highway patrol will come to your exact location.
FSP operators aren’t allowed to accept tips, but many would appreciate it if you’d leave a favorable review on their survey website.
