Seattle is well-known for its proximity to the ocean, mountains, and some of the world’s best coffee spots. But Seattle can be a nightmare for drivers, especially when it comes to one specific intersection. A Union Street exit called Exit 165B can be an unnecessarily dangerous hurdle for drivers. Having caused multiple car accidents
already this year, the exit is a car accident hotspot. We can help you avoid the Union Street exit ramp and help you avoid overpriced car insurance

MotorTrend
goes into more detail about what’s causing the car accidents at the Union Street exit in Seattle. Apparently, the Union Street exit takes drivers from a speed of 60 mph on the interstate to a sharp 20-mph zone at the end of the ramp. The issue with this quick reduction is that the ramp itself isn’t very long, and it has a 90-degree angle at the end. This confusing and abrupt exit ramp was apparently the best that Seattle could do, considering that the Washington State Department of Transportation made changes to the exit in 2021 after multiple complaints from state residents.
What changes has the Washington State Department of Transportation made?
To help reduce accidents and pacify upset Seattleites, Washington State has added larger signs for the exit ramp that are easier to read, including a “20 mph” advisory label to help warn drivers of the upcoming speed reduction.
Video recovered from one Seattleite that captured 4 years of car accidents before the changes was cited by MotorTrend. In the footage, they noted that even a tow truck managed to smash into the side of the 90-degree exit ramp—not exactly a safe way to merge into traffic.
How do Seattle drivers compare to other major city drivers?
According to The News Tribune
, Seattle ranks as one of the worst cities in the U.S. to drive in after a study of 100 major U.S. cities ranked the trendy town at 91. It may not please Seattle residents to see their city on the list, but Seattle is doing far better than most other major metropolitan areas. But it should be noted that 2021 was one of the most deadly years for car accidents
in Washington in over 15 years, despite most of the U.S. having barely crawled out of quarantine. Washington drivers can find great coverage with a little help from Jerry
