VW loses an invaluable executive, Johan de Nysschen

Johan de Nysschen ended his career as a highly successful COO who helped lead VW and other companies to success.
Automotive News
quoted de Nysschen as remarking "I've done everything I have set out to do here, but you are never truly 'done.' There's always the next thing in any job.”
In his role as COO, Nysschen worked to oversee production at VW’s Chattanooga, Tenessee production facility—acting as a sort of middleman between production efforts and executive employees.
Despite succeeding at VW, de Nysschen was notably fired from Cadillac after reportedly ruffling the feathers of other employees who didn’t like his plans to refresh the brand as well the buying experience for customers.

What does Johan de Nysschen plan to do after retirement?

The former COO doesn’t plan to spend too many days on the golf course, it seems; in fact, he may not even be officially retiring.
The same Automotive News article explains that VW has given Johan de Nysschen an office to continue to use in order to help him organize his non-profit efforts in Tennessee, post-retirement.
Nysschen apparently wants to focus on giving back to the Chattanooga community through anti-poverty relief and also wants to contribute to engineering programs at Tennessee universities.

Does VW intend to replace Johan de Nysschen?

At present, VW is actually removing the COO role from the company’s hierarchy in order to make room for restructuring and
operational changes
Still, there’s no doubt that de Nysschen helped Volkswagen improve the quality of its North American manufacturing process in addition to strengthening the company's relationship with dealers.
VW fans shouldn’t worry too much about the restructuring process, though; the COO role was created specifically for de Nysschen, so having it removed after he has retired only makes sense.
