In hopes of accelerating its U.S. market strategy, leading electric vehicle charging company FLO has announced plans to open its first U.S.-based production facility in Michigan
in late 2022. FLO
anticipates that the facility, located in Auburn Hills just north of Detroit
, will make a significant contribution to the electrification future of Michigan. FLO intends to manufacture more than 250,000 electric vehicle (EV) chargers for the American market by the year 2028.4.7/5 rating on the App Store | Trusted by 5+ million customers and 7 million cars 4.7/5 app rating | Trusted by 5M+ drivers New facility will create over 700 new jobs in the area
The facility will be a significant step forward in FLO's growth in the U.S. market. FLO has already deployed thousands of charging stations in New York City
, Southern California
, and many other regions across the United States, with plans to expand further to suit consumer needs nationwide. The manufacturing plant itself will create 500 jobs, and the increased economic activity in Michigan will create another 230 jobs in industries unrelated to the plant.
The Auburn Hills production plant will also contain an advanced testing lab to verify that FLO chargers function efficiently with all EVs.
The testing lab's location in Michigan places it close to leading American automakers. This will help FLO ensure its chargers are compatible with new EVs hitting the market in the coming years, making everything easier for both FLO's customers and new EV owners.
Funding for EV charging infrastructure gives $110 million boost to industry
As EV usage rises, so will state and federal initiatives to foster an EV-friendly environment for both consumers and businesses.
President Biden's Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act
contained $5 billion in financing to develop a nationwide charging network, putting the United States on track to make EVs available to all Americans for both local and long-distance travel. "The future of EVs is in Michigan. We are proud to announce our facility today—our first in the U.S.—that will not only create jobs for Michiganders, but also help meet rising demand for smart, reliable charging stations, and continue to expand the FLO network across the USA," said Louis Tremblay, CEO and president of FLO.
"Thanks to President Biden and Governor Whitmer for supporting policies that will transform the future of mobility and electrification of vehicles."
In February, Governor Whitmer announced
that Michigan will receive $110 million in formula funding (over five years) to construct electric vehicle charging infrastructure and help the state continue to lead the way in mobility and electrification. "We are proud to welcome FLO to Michigan and serve as the home for their very first manufacturing facility in the United States," commented Governor Whitmer. "As we look toward growing our economy, investing in our workforce, and creating good-paying jobs, we know the importance of leading the transition to electric vehicles.
“FLO's presence in Oakland County builds on our tradition of automotive manufacturing with an eye toward our electrified future. This announcement is the latest in a series of recent, major investments in Michigan's economy, and I could not be prouder that the world's manufacturing leaders know Michigan is the place to be."
BW Research recently put out an economic report
estimating the FLO manufacturing facility will bring in $134 million in sales of EV chargers and $76 million in gross state product in Michigan by 2028. 4.717k Ratings 5M+Drivers Joined
