. Not a popular choice by any means, but a higher number than any other place in America.
The next highest share of minivan sales, at 4.5%, is in Iowa. Most other states come in somewhere between 1 and 3% of vehicle share.
Still, the overwhelmingly popular choice in Hawaii are cars, such as sedans, coupes, hatchbacks and so on, at 45%. Followed by SUVs at 33% and pickup trucks at 14%.
Hawaii has the lowest share of SUV sales in the country, according to iSeeCars, but they still make up a third of the vehicles on the road. Passenger cars like sedans are more popular; the state has the second-highest share of them in America, after California.
They also have by far the most minivans. Hawaiians
also lead to lower costs for used cars, about 5.7% below the national average.
Why do we dislike minivans?
It comes as no surprise that minivans are the least popular car type. Consumers simply tend to avoid them.
For all their benefits: cargo space, passenger space, safety, driving ability, fuel efficiency, reliability and so on, we just don’t like them. It’s a stereotype, but the image of the minivan isn’t sexy. From its body and lines to the connotation that only soccer moms and middle-agers drive them.
Maybe Hawaiians have their priorities straight. It doesn’t matter how you look while driving it—they pass less for cars, and they get more for their money.
