When driving on gravel or dirt roads, what must you do to stay safe?

What do you have to do when you drive on gravel or dirt roads? I’m going to take a hiking trip with one of my friends, and in order to get to the trailhead, we have to go on a few miles of gravel and dirt roads. I’m a little nervous.

That sounds like a fun trip—try not to be nervous! When driving on gravel and dirt roads, you must slow down to give yourself more time to stop. It is much easier to slide or skid when driving on dirt or gravel, so giving yourself more time to stop is important to
keeping yourself safe
, especially when turning.
Once you get a feel for the gravel or dirt road, however, it will become easier to predict where your car will go. To ensure a safe driving experience:
  • Take it slow
  • Stay calm
  • Keep your eyes on the road at all times
When you take a long trip like this, it’s also important to have a good insurance policy in place. The
