The great thing about new cars
is their new features. You might get a unique car color
, or you might get a brand new lane assist feature. In the case of the 2023 Lotus Emira, you get an optional new engine. It is an exciting motor in a history-making car, and you will definitely want to at least check it out.
Lotus Emira is the last of its line
Lotus is a British sports car maker. According to MotorTrend
, it has decided to make only electric cars from now on with the Emira being their last combustion-powered car. Customer reservations will become available outside of the UK this summer, and deliveries will start at the end of 2022. Lotus will also produce details about their new model line-up soon.
In the meantime, they have crammed this last Lotus Emira with features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and they let you pick between two powerful motors.
What makes the Lotus Emira engine so special?
First Edition Emiras can be equipped with a 3.5 supercharged V6 engine. Lotus got this engine from Toyota, and it gets over 400 horsepower and 310 pounds of torque.
You can also pick a turbocharged two-liter l-4 that is truly drool-worthy. Lotus says this is the most powerful engine of its kind.
The l-4 is made by Mercedes-AMG, and you can find it in the Mercedes-AMG CLA45, GLA45, and GLB45. However, the Lotus Emira differs from those cars because it has a mid-engine configuration. This means it will have a few tweaks to make the Emira motor unique.
The Lotus l-4 will also have an exhaust and software tune specific to the Emira. These provide 365 horsepower and 310 pounds of torque, and Lotus and AMG say it provides 208 bhp per liter.
Lotus and AMG also created an eight-speed paddle-shift dual-clutch gearbox to go with the l-4 engine. It is a rear-wheel-drive and is only found in the Lotus Emira.
Other features
If you go for the V6 engine, you can pick between a six-speed manual transmission with Torsen limited-slip differential or a six-speed auto.
No matter which engine you pick, you can choose between Tour or Sport suspension tunes. The 20-inch forged alloy wheels, however, are standard for the car. The last Lotus Emira aims to be comfortable with 12-way adjustable seats with driver memory presets for heating.
All of the Emiras come with Bluetooth connectivity, climate control, cruise control, and a KEF-tuned digital radio behind a 10.25-inch screen. A 12.3-inch driver display is on the dash, and the First Edition package will put a tire pressure monitoring system on the display.
Speaking of tires, you can have Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport or Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 on your car. You will have to choose one or the other if you get a First Edition model.
The model also comes with the Lower Black exterior package, the Design package, and the Convenience Pack. The Convenience Pack has sensors for parking and wipers, and the Design Pack includes floor mats, new pedals, black Alcantara headliner, and privacy glass.
The Lower Black exterior package makes the lower features black, and customers have their choice of six colors for the top half of the exterior. The interior can be any of seven colors.
