Live Out Your 'Roman Holiday' Dreams With This Adorable Lego Vespa

Lego has come out with some fun sets for vehicles in the past, but we’d argue few are quite as fun as this one. Lego is making their own toy Vespa design to commemorate the scooter company’s 75th anniversary.

background
Can't afford the vehicle of your dreams? Over the years, there have been some
cool Lego sets
that allow people to live out their car fantasies. The toy company makes it possible to build and own a Bugatti, Porsche, or McLaren.
Sports cars have long had their day with Lego sets, and now
scooters
can get in on the fun, too. Lego recently released a Vespa set, and it's as cute as you think it is.

Introducing Lego's first official Vespa set

Europe prospered after WWII, and manufacturing played a big part in this economic recovery. Coincidentally, both Lego and Vespa also flourished during this time. Vespa produced its first scooter in 1946, and in 1949, Lego introduced Automatic Binding Bricks, the precursor to today's stackable bricks.
It took decades for these two European companies to collaborate. But, at long last, you can now buy and build your very own Lego Vespa 125.
Lego released this set to commemorate the Italian scooter manufacturer's 75th anniversary. And this small-scale Vespa is big on details. The scooter comes complete with a working kickstand, helmet, and a small basket of flowers.
Sharp-eyed brick builders will notice the Easter egg on the license plate, which has the numbers "23 04 46." That isn't a random string of numbers. It commemorates the date that the Vespa patent was filed: April 23, 1946.

How much does the Lego Vespa set cost?

Adults shouldn't feel guilty about buying this Lego set for themselves. With just over 1,100 pieces, putting together the Vespa 125 isn't exactly child's play. As part of Lego's Creator Expert line-up, the Vespa joins other European-inspired sets like the Colosseum and Manchester United's stadium.
Car and Driver
reports that the finished scooter is approximately 9 inches tall and 12 inches long. It's much too large for a Lego minifigure. But feel free to take Barbie or Ken for a spin around your desk. Or, you can park this pint-sized Vespa next to photos from your last trip to Italy.
The Vespa 125 is a nod to the brand's 1960s-style scooters. It retails for $99.99, and if you want one, it's not a bad idea to act fast—popular Lego sets have been known to sell out. And while you wait for your Lego Vespa to be delivered, you can stay busy

Lego lets you recreate 'Roman Holiday's' Vespa scene

We can thank the 1953 film "Roman Holiday" for popularizing the Vespa scooter in the U.S. In an iconic scene, Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck ride an out-of-control Vespa. With Hepburn at the wheel, they narrowly avoid a trolley, cars, and cafe patrons. Hepburn giggles throughout the joyride, even when the polizia are hot on their trail.
You can safely recreate this scene without the trouble of a ticket or an accident with this wonderful set. Because after all, this is one Vespa that you don't need insurance for.

Say 'Ciao' to affordable Vespa insurance

No one will blame you if this Lego set inspires you to buy a full-sized Vespa. You'll need scooter insurance, but why pay more than you have to?
