The first thing to note, as TechCrunch
helpfully points out, is that this new upgrade isn’t available to all vehicles. Only specified models will be privy to the Infiniti CarPlay upgrade. It should be a simple fix, as Infiniti owners who qualify for the upgrade can expect to wait about an hour while technicians get their vehicle’s onboard computer up to date with the latest software capabilities. Even though the upgrade isn’t anticipated to take that long, it’s only available for a short while.
Which models have been selected for the Infiniti CarPlay upgrade?
So far, the 2020 and 2021 QX80, Q50, Q60
, and Q60 SUV are the only models available for the upgrade. For some reason, Infiniti has been farther behind other companies when it comes to including Apple CarPlay. But finally, this year has marked the first Infiniti models to come equipped with CarPlay—including the 2022 QX80, Q50, Q60 and Q60 SUV. The reason for Infiniti’s slow response to Apple’s infotainment screen domination may have something to do with contract negotiation with Apple, as the automotive industry remains wary of the tech giant being poised to take over other companies—starting from the dashboard.

Infiniti has also introduced over-the-air updates as well
Similar to Tesla and other carmakers, Infiniti has introduced their InTouch system, which offers software updates that can be done through wifi. There are a few stipulations, of course, mainly being that the vehicle must be in range and the wifi network of choice must be password protected.
Infiniti’s InTouch system can be set to scan for updates, once connected to wifi. Infiniti owners who are unsure of how to navigate their vehicle’s InTouch system should contact their nearest service center or authorized Infiniti dealership.
