Hyundai
doesn’t get compared to luxury automakers like BMW, McLaren, and Porsche very often, but the Korean automaker is working to change that. Yes, its N collection clearly nods to a certain German automaker’s
performance badge, but it’s a new concept that’s pushing the brand into supercar territory. A mid-engine sports car called the RM20 takes Hyundai’s Veloster N and kicks things up a notch. Jerry

Since 2012, Hyundai has developed high-performance concepts and production sports cars under its “N” banner. Within that division, the RM project started working on a mid-engine
model back in 2014. Four concepts later, we finally have a model with a production date. Starting with a basic four-cylinder, the RM (which stands for Racing Midship) reached peak performance in the RM19 prototype, managing 390 hp, a shocking amount from such a small engine.
Hyundai had to cool things off to adhere to emissions regulations, but the RM20 is still expected to produce over 300 hp. Motor1
says that, coupled with its near-perfect weight ratio, will put it on par with top-trim Porsche 911s. Other high-performance Hyundais in the wings
The RM20 introduces a new era of performance capability for Hyundai, but the automaker doesn’t seem satisfied with that. It also plans to offer an electric sports car in the near future, the RM20e. The EV is expected to produce over 700 hp, like many of its high-performance rivals.
In a similar but less speed-related vein, the automaker continues to announce new additions to its electric subbrand, Ioniq. By 2024, Ioniq 5 will be joined by a 6 and 7.
The Ioniq 7 will continue the trend of electric SUVs entering the market, though it will add enough space for a third row, similar to the brand's current gas-powered Palisade.
The Ioniq 6, on the other hand, presents as a luxury sedan. Like its siblings, it’s clearly meant to level up Hyundai’s image and help turn the car brand into one synonymous with class.
