Millenials and Gen Z individuals get a lot of flack in the media. But lately, it’s not our love of avocado toast that’s making headlines. Instead, a new study reports that Gen Z drivers
will be the demographic most affected by the rapidly changing car market. So why is Gen Z
hurting the most? From Boomer to Gen Z, we’ve got drivers of all ages covered. Our app takes the hassle out of shopping for car insurance
, making it easy for everyone to get a great deal on the insurance they need. CDK’s new study
CDK Global
recently conducted a survey that involved over 1,000 participants of varying ages. The survey aimed to understand how car shopping, car research, and dealership experiences affected different generations. The results were compelling. 81% of Gen Z survey respondents say they want to take time to understand vehicle options and pricing, whereas older buyers prefer less time to make a decision.
This portion of the study may seem intuitive; compared to younger drivers
, older individuals are bound to have more car buying experience and a better understanding of what car models and trim options they prefer. The rest of the study showed even more differences between Gen Z and other car-buying age groups. Gen Z struggles more than other generations with online car buying
The stereotype of younger generations being tech-savvy is certainly challenged by one of the most interesting statistics released by CDK Global’s report. They found that 22% of Gen Z individuals had difficulty shopping for a vehicle online, more than any other demographic.
Gen Z buyers also found the dealership experience more unpleasant than Boomers
and Millennials, noting that waiting on a salesperson was one of the worst parts of visiting a dealership, and nearly half of Gen Z buyers (45%) ranked this as the single most frustrating part of the car buying experience. Other notable differences between Gen Zers and other generations
The survey found that Gen Z was more likely than other groups to purchase a luxury car brand, while Millennials, Gen X, and Baby Boomers trailed behind respectively.
Despite Gen Zers not enjoying having to wait on a salesperson at the dealership, they were the generation most likely to want an expert’s knowledge to guide their purchasing decision. Despite wanting help from professionals, though, Gen Z was also the least likely generation to recommend their purchasing experience to someone else.
