As a new

, you not only have to know exactly what you want, but what you don’t want, and the following list from Consumer Reports (CR) might help you narrow down the selection.
Consumer Reports
recently released a list of their top 10 least satisfying cars of 2022, cataloging what exactly left some buyers wanting more from their new ride. Read on below to see what cars disappointed in terms of consumer satisfaction and their respective satisfaction rating.

How did Consumer Reports get this data?

After polling responses from 300,000 owners of new vehicles,
Consumer Reports
asked respondents how likely they would be to buy the same car again. They also asked about comfort, overall handling, and ease of use for in-car technology.
Taking all of this data into consideration—in addition to the experiences of car-owners who have had their vehicles for up to three years—Consumer Reports was able to calculate a predicted owner satisfaction score.

What makes for a low satisfaction rating

In general, owners appear to report higher satisfaction ratings when they’re looking to fulfill a specific need or expectation. People who know exactly what they want tend to fare better in terms of positive feedback, but that doesn’t mean that the cars on the least satisfying list aren’t good cars or worth looking into.
In some instances, like with the
Ford EcoSport
, high expectations were met with poor performance, leading to a low satisfaction score overall. Sold as a sporty, driveable, and more fuel-efficient subcompact SUV, drivers reported that the EcoSport did not fulfill expectations on all fronts.
The
Nissan Rogue Sport
faced a similar problem, wherein a car was marketed for sportiness but didn’t quite live up to what car buyers were looking for. Rogue Sport owners also cited disappointment in the overall value, comfort, and onboard entertainment system.
Taking this data into consideration, Consumer Reports urges readers to use these lists as a tool for making their final decision, not necessarily as a car-shopping guide. Some cars, like the
Acura MDX
, ranked somewhat low on customer satisfaction ratings (59%), but are still a fairly reliable, comfortable, and powerful ride.
On the other end of the spectrum, high-end sports vehicles like the
Chevrolet Corvette
or flashy new electric cars like the
Tesla Model Y
ranked very high in customer satisfaction, but those aren’t necessarily going to be the most satisfying choice for someone looking for a reliable commuter car.
