Will my uninsured motorist coverage pay for my passenger's medical bills?
"I was rear-ended and not at fault in an accident. My passenger hit their head and had to go to the emergency room. The at-fault driver doesn't have insurance.
My insurance said they would pay up to a certain amount for the medical bills, but I'd still owe $1,500. I have uninsured motorist coverage; would this apply?"

“There are two types of
uninsured motorist coverage
. One is bodily injury and the other is property damage. Not every policy has both.It is more common to see uninsured motorist coverage for bodily injury, as that is what is included in most states’
minimum insurance requirements
. The bodily injury coverage will pay for medical bills up to your limits. If you have this coverage, you shouldn’t need to pay out of pocket for any medical costs, including your passenger’s. You should check with your insurance carrier to confirm whether your uninsured motorist coverage includes bodily injury, property damage, or both.
Your insurance company might have used your
medical payments coverage
initially, so it will be good to clarify your coverages with them. “
