Will my homeowners policy cover the tile in my kitchen and bathroom?
I have been living in my new home for the past eight months. Everything was fine when we moved in, but now the vinyl tiles in the kitchen and bathroom are peeling up. I am not sure what is going on, but it looks terrible. Is this something that my homeowner's policy will cover?

“The flooring in your home is covered by your
homeowner’s policy
if the loss is from a covered claim. Do you know when the tile was installed? If it was done professionally, there might be a warranty still in effect.
The warping of the tiles could be from:
- a bad installation job
- wear and tear
- water damage
- from the foundation of the house settling or shifting
If it is any of these cases, the claim would not be covered.
You may want to get an estimate for how much it will cost to have the floor replaced. They may also give you a better idea of what is causing the warping of the existing tiles. Rather than putting in a claim and having your homeowner’s insurance rate increase, you may decide to fix it yourself.
