Will home insurance cover termite damage?

It’s official: we’ve got termites in our house. I want to deal with this problem ASAP, but I’m worried about how expensive it will be. Is termite damage covered by home insurance?

I’m sorry you’re dealing with a termite problem. Unfortunately, termite damage is likely not covered by your home insurance policy.

For the most part,

protects homeowners against damage that happens suddenly and unexpectedly. This includes damage from perils like a fire or theft. Termite damage is rarely one of the named perils on an insurance policy because it is damage that happens gradually over time.

It’s estimated that termites cause $5 billion of property damage a year, so be sure to deal with your termite issue quickly. Call a pest control company to get your home termite-free.
