Will getting non owners car insurance help to create a good insurance history?

I got my driver's license a little late in life at 27. I don't have my own car yet, but I might borrow my parents' car from time to time. They might not want to put me on their policy since it will raise their rate a lot. Will having a non owners policy for a few years first help my insurance rates in the future?

“That is a good question, and it is great that you are thinking ahead!
Yes, a
non owners car insurance
policy will count towards your insurance history. Most carriers want to see continuous coverage with a carrier for at least six months in order to provide you with a lower rate. Of course, the longer you have continuous coverage, the better.
If you were to borrow your parents’ car and get into an accident, even with the non owners policy, their policy would pay out for the claim first and your policy would pay out any excess
liability insurance
damages.
Most non owners policies do not come with
comprehensive insurance
or
collision insurance
; you would need to include that coverage by purchasing an endorsement. “
