Great question! **Disconnecting the battery may be necessary for certain reasons and it may cause more noticeable changes than it solves.
Disconnecting the battery can be dangerous to both you and your vehicle, so make sure a professional is doing it if you aren’t one yourself.
While this process will not cause harm to your vehicle’s computer or its electronic control unit, you will likely notice a difference in your vehicle’s performance afterward.
It’s not a good idea to keep it unplugged for long periods of time. If you disconnect your battery for over 5 to 10 minutes, your vehicle will forget some of the adaptive settings it learned and saved such as radio and temperature presets.
Disconnecting the battery will operate like a factory reset for your vehicle’s computer system. If you are having electrical problems it may not be the correct solution and it would be a good idea to get a professional’s insight.
