Why would both low beam headlights go out?

I hopped in my car the other day to go to the grocery store at about 9 p.m. But when I turned on my headlights, nothing happened. I ended up having to Uber instead. I know I need to get the issue fixed, but I don’t know where to start. Why would both of my low beam headlights go out at once?

We’re sorry that you had to Uber to the grocery store! If both low beam headlights go out, it could be a simple fix or something more complex. Some reasons why both would go out include:
  • Both bulbs are burned out.
  • The fuse for the headlights is blown.
  • You have faulty wiring issues that could have been caused by wear and tear or even rodents chewing through wires.
As part of your
basic scheduled maintenance
, make sure that both of your headlights and your taillights are in working order. If they aren’t, driving is a safety hazard and may even cost you a ticket.
While car insurance won’t pay for repairs to your headlights, it’s still an integral part of legally getting on the road. If you haven’t reviewed your insurance recently, use the
