Why won’t my 2011 Toyota Sienna’s sliding door open?

I’m picking up some furniture from Facebook Marketplace this weekend and borrowing my roommate’s car. I tried to open the back door to lower the seats, but the sliding door was jammed. Why won’t their 2011 Toyota Sienna’s sliding doors open?

The most common reason why a 2011
Toyota Sienna
’s sliding door won’t open is because the sliding door cable broke. You can purchase a replacement cable for about $30 to $70 and install it yourself. Or, if you’re not up for a DIY project, you can take the Sienna to a mechanic—but bear in mind that you will need to pay a mechanic around $100 to $200 for the labor involved in replacing it.
Motor failure is also a potential reason the sliding doors won’t open. And, unlike the sliding door cable, this isn’t something we’d recommend you do yourself. The part, too, will cost much more: somewhere around $1,200. Labor is slightly more expensive, though, at $280 to $360.
Circuit failure, too, can cause sliding doors to fail. If the electric circuit becomes overloaded, it can trip one of the fuses. Generally, when this happens, the sliding doors will still open but won’t latch closed.
Regardless of what’s causing the problem, you should tell your roommate what’s going on so they can take their Sienna in for a proper diagnosis. And we hope you can still pick up what you need from Facebook!
