Why is my AC making a clunking noise?
While on my morning commute today I turned on the AC in my car as it’s getting hot where I live, but my AC started making this weird clunking noise. I turned it off and rolled my windows down instead, but with summer coming, I’d really like to get it fixed. Any idea why my AC is making a clunking noise?

Your AC might be making a clunking noise because of loose bolts that secure the unit inside your car. Loose bolts can cause parts of your AC to shake around and cause a clunking noise when the system is turned on.
If the clunking is loud and fast, it’s possible that there’s an issue with your compressor or serpentine belt. A damaged belt can cause strange noises but it’s a simple fix. A damaged compressor, on the other hand, is a very expensive fix.
Keep your AC unit off and bring your car to a mechanic so you don’t risk damaging another part of the unit. Your mechanic will correctly diagnose the problem so you can fix your AC unit and enjoy cool air again!
