Why is getting a policy of my own so much more expensive than being a driver on another policy?
I was previously listed as a driver on my mom's insurance. Now she says I have to get my own insurance because I moved out. My new policy is over $1,300 for six months! Why is this so expensive?

“There could be a number of factors impacting your rate, but one thing that stands out is that perhaps your new insurance company is not giving you credit for having had continuous coverage under your mom’s policy.
Every company will view this differently and underwrite this differently when determining your rate, so it may have no impact, but it is worth looking into.
The best thing you can do moving forward is to maintain a safe driving record and keep current insurance in your name. If you do this, your rate should decrease over time.
