Why is gas so expensive in California?

Gas prices are higher than I’ve ever seen them before, and I don’t really understand why. What is making the gas prices so high in California?

While
California
is known for having the highest average gas prices of any state in the U.S., the current high price of gas in the state is reflective of a national problem. Gas is so expensive due to high demand and low supply, meaning a lot of people want gas, and there isn’t as much to go around as there has been in the past.
This issue was partially caused by the market upset from the war in Ukraine with Russia. The President banned the import of Russian crude oil and gasoline, lowering the supply of gas in the United States and therefore effectively raising the prices.
