Why does my 2013 Ford Explorer make a ticking noise?

The causes behind a vehicle’s ticking noise can range from the very simple and cheap to the very complex and expensive. A 2013 Ford Explorer ticking noise could be due to low oil levels, low oil pressure, an exhaust leak, or an ignition system malfunction. These are some of the most common causes.
If the problem is a low oil level, that’s a pretty cheap and easy fix. Low oil pressure is often caused by low engine oil levels—although sometimes other issues in the engine can affect the pressure. Resolving your engine oil level might end the Explorer’s annoying tick.
If it doesn’t, check for an exhaust leak. If none are found and your car is still ticking, it’s probably time to have a technician take a look.
