Why didn't my auto insurance pay for my rental car, all of medical expenses, or my wage losses?
"I submitted a claim to my insurance for a not-at-fault accident. I sent them my medical bills, rental car expenses, and the amount of wages I lost from being unable to work.
They sent me a check only covering part of my medical expenses. They also said they closed my claim and I should reach out to the other party's insurance. What should I do? Do I need to report them to the Department of Insurance? "

“If your insurance is paying for part of your medical expenses, it’s most likely because you have personal injury protection or
medical payment coverage
. Whether they pay for your lost wages also depends on the coverage on your policy. Once your insurance pays out what your policy covers, they have a right to close the claim. Typically, rental car coverage, the rest of your medical bills, and your work loss would be paid for by the other driver’s insurance since they are at fault. This would fall under their
liability car insurance
. While your insurance company can work with the other insurer to be reimbursed for the medical coverage they provided, it’s up to you to work with the other driver’s insurance. You’ll need to submit all of your documentation to them. Once they review it, they’ll offer you a settlement.
