Why can’t electric cars charge themselves?

I’m confused as to why there aren’t any self-charging electric cars yet. It seems like solar technology or something similar could be used to achieve this. What gives?

This is a great question, so let’s break it down. Simply put, **the technology to fully self-charge an electric car just doesn’t exist yet on a large scale. **
Technically a version of self-charging exists in
hybrid vehicles
—it’s called regenerative braking. When you press the brake of a hybrid vehicle, it causes the car’s electric motor to go in reverse and act as a generator. The energy is used to recharge the
car’s battery
.
But this is only self-charging on a small level.
However, there is actually a German company called Sono Motors, which is working on a car that self-charges itself through solar power. So perhaps, the technology to enable electric cars to self-charge is on the horizon.
