While several automakers are subsidiaries of other companies, Nissan has always been owned by its own parent company—the Nissan Motor Corporation. However, French automaker Renault has a 43.4% stake in the Nissan Motor Company. While this doesn’t give Renault total control over Nissan, it does give them increased influence on the operations of the Japanese automaker.
Nissan also controls a 15% stake in Renault, which also gives them a bit of influence over the matters of the company—or at least a small voice in Nissan’s European market.
