Who owns Nissan?

I’ve only owned Nissan vehicles in my life. While I know quite a bit about the models that the company produces, I’m not really certain about the business side. Does any other company own Nissan?

While several automakers are subsidiaries of other companies, Nissan has always been owned by its own parent company—the Nissan Motor Corporation. However, French automaker Renault has a 43.4% stake in the Nissan Motor Company. While this doesn’t give Renault total control over Nissan, it does give them increased influence on the operations of the Japanese automaker.
Nissan also controls a 15% stake in Renault, which also gives them a bit of influence over the matters of the company—or at least a small voice in Nissan’s European market.
