reports that Amazon has a plan to purchase 100,000 custom electric delivery cars from American EV maker, Rivian
.Back in 2019, the companies teamed up to help create a more sustainable, clean energy future through the Climate Pledge. Following its pledge to reach net zero emissions by 2040, Amazon has teamed up with Rivian to manufacture future delivery trucks.
With each van at 700 cubic feet of cargo storage and a 201-mile range, the plan is to also build Alexa directly into the vehicle so drivers will be able to communicate and receive directions hands-free. For navigation assistance, the companies have planned on integrating the package delivery system to make drivers’ lives and routes easier.
With hopes for thousands of vehicles ready for use by the end of this year, the company says it will use the vehicles in a number of cities across the U.S., including Chicago, Kansas City, Phoenix, Seattle, Tennessee, and Dallas, among others.
It would have been cool to see Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos team up, but maybe on another project to space.
