Where was the Ford Rotunda located?

I was researching for an upcoming trip to Dearborn, MI the other day, and I stumbled upon some fascinating history about the reassembled Ford Rotunda that burned down. Where was the Ford Rotunda located originally?

The dearly departed Ford Rotunda was a tragic loss for tourists! The (first) Ford Rotunda was originally located in Chicago, Illinois as part of the Chicago World’s Fair, but relocated to Dearborn, Michigan for most of its life. Here’s how the timeline plays out:
  • 1933-1934: The first Ford Rotunda is installed in Chicago’s South Side for the Century of Progress International Exposition
  • 1936: After being dismantled following the World’s Fair, the Ford Rotunda is reassembled and reopens in Dearborn, Michigan
  • 1936-1942: The Rotunda’s innovative interior displays receive millions of visitors per year
  • 1942-1953: The Rotunda closes to assist with wartime efforts
  • 1953-1962: The Rotunda reopens with new displays—they receive more traffic than the Statue of Liberty
  • November 1962: The Rotunda burns down from a roof fire during prep for its holiday spectacular
A second Ford Rotunda was built for the 1964 World’s Fair in New York featuring pavilions designed by Walt Disney. This second Rotunda included a ride called the Magic Skyway, which displayed animatronic dinosaurs that later found a home in Disneyland’s Railroad in Anaheim, CA.
The Ford Rotunda and World’s Fair were all about innovation. While you can’t visit the Rotunda any longer, you can still prepare for your Dearborn trip by finding
