Where was the first Volkswagen made?

I’ve always loved Volkswagens and decided to look into the company and learn about them. Where was the first Volkswagen car made?

Digging into the history of automotive manufacturers can be interesting! The first Volkswagen was made in Stuttgart, Germany.
The prototype car was called the “KdF-Wagen” and was produced in 1938. It featured the signature round shape and the air-cooled rear-mounted flat-four engine that the VW Beetle has. Mechanically speaking, the car was simple—the fewer parts it had, the less that could go wrong with it.
While Germany may have produced the first VW vehicle, they’re now made worldwide, with production facilities in places like:
  • Brazil
  • China
  • Turkey
  • France
  • India
  • Spain
  • Slovakia
  • Germany
  • Belgium
