How sweet of you to treat your grandma to some one-on-one time with her favorite race car! The original Ford GT40 is technically located at the Shelby Heritage Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. But it depends on which GT40 you’re looking for.
If you remember from your grandma’s story, or from watching Ford v Ferrari, Ford famously placed first, second, and third at Le Mans in 1966. Therefore, there are three Ford GT40 Mk II models that played a vital role in breaking Ferrari’s streak on the race track.
While Ken Miles’ Ford GT40 is located in Nevada, the Ford GT40 that won first (driven by Chris Amon and Bruce McLaren) is currently garaged in Charlotte, NC where it’s owned by a private collector. The collector did, however, spruce the Ford GT40 up for the red carpet during the Ford v Ferrari premiere. If you take a look at pictures from the event, you can catch it photo bombing Christian Bale and Matt Damon.
