What a kind gesture! Just proceed cautiously—the OBD port location in a 2019 Toyota Corolla
is on the driver’s side to the left of and underneath the steering wheel. Look for a little clip that you’ll need to pull down to access the port. All vehicles made from 1996 onward feature an Onboard Diagnostics II (OBD-II) port that monitors the emissions, engine, and transmission systems performance. This port will allow you to access the Toyota Corolla’s internal computer to run a diagnostic.
If you have an OBD-II scan tool, you can easily run a diagnostic on your vehicle. If you don’t have a scan tool, we suggest taking the Corolla to a Toyota dealership or a certified repair shop instead because the process for running a diagnostic without a scanner is complex.
To run a diagnostic with a scan tool, follow these steps:
With the Corolla’s OBD port exposed, plug the scan tool directly into the 16-pronged port.
Turn on the scan tool and crank the Corolla’s ignition to the On position—don’t fully turn the car on.
Press “Scan” on the scan tool and follow the directions on the screen.
All scanners are a little different, so it’s crucial that you follow your model’s instructions precisely. If the diagnostic is a success, the scan tool will provide you with and help you read a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC)
generated by the Corolla’s internal computer. Best of luck getting to the bottom of the issue!
