, the OBD port location is to the left of the steering wheel under the dashboard. You should see the port right below the gas tank button. The OBD port in the 2010 Mazda 5 is an OBD-II port, also written as “OBD2.” That means you can use any OBD-2 scanner to read your Mazda’s
OBD codes
to diagnose the issue. If you don’t own an OBD scanner, you can usually use one at your local auto parts store, like AutoZone or O’Reilly Auto Parts. If you have your own scanner, you can read the user manual to find out how to use it. For most scanners, though, you can just follow these steps:
- Plug the connector into your Mazda’s OBD port while your car is off.
- Turn your car on, then enter any necessary information the scanner requests. It’s likely you’ll need to provide the VIN.
- Push the “scan” button on the scanner and follow the prompts. After a few seconds, the screen should show any error codes your Mazda is throwing.
- Record the data so you can know what next steps you need to take to fix the problem.
You can generally use the scanner to reset the Check Engine Light once the problem has been fixed, too, but this depends on the specific OBD scanner you use.
