Where did the Audi logo come from?

I’m a master of trivia and a huge fan of luxury cars, so I felt pretty silly at pub trivia last week when I didn’t know where the Audi logo came from. I didn’t hear the answer either, so now I’m at a loss. Where did the Audi logo originate?

If you want to impress your fellow trivia-goers, the four-ring Audi logo comes from the four German automakers located in Saxony that merged in August of 1932. The four companies that merged to become the Auto Union included Audi, DKW, Horch, and Wanderer.
In the 1950s, Auto Union fell on rough times. It was sold to Daimler-Benz in 1958, and subsequently to Volkswagen in 1964. Shortly after its acquisition by VW, Auto Union was rebranded as Audi and the name has remained to this day.
