Where can I stay when driving from Portland to San Francisco?

Where should I stop on my drive from Portland to San Francisco? It’s a really long drive so I want to break it up into two days, but I also want to make the trip fun if I can. Are there any cool towns along the way?

If you’d like to stay in a hotel while driving
between Portland and San Francisco
, Ashland, Oregon is a great place to stop. Ashland is about five hours from Portland and six hours from San Francisco, making it basically halfway between the two.
Some options for staying in Ashland include the following:
  • The Ashland Springs Hotel is a pretty standard hotel, but it has excellent ratings and offers affordable pricing.
  • If you’re looking for something a little more unusual, The Hummingbird Estate is a bed and breakfast that offers wine tastings and excellent views.
  • For something a little more affordable, you can often find a room at The Stratford Inn for less than $100 per night.
Another option would be to find a campsite along the way. There are lots of places near Ashland, like Mt. Ashland Campground or Emigrant Lake County Park, but there are tons of other camping options to explore between Portland and San Francisco!
