Rolls-Royce are made in Goodwood, England. However, this hasn’t always been the case! You may be surprised by the brand’s history.
Here’s how this luxury car manufacturer changed over the years:
  • 1906: Rolls-Royce Limited was founded and produced luxury cars
  • 1940: Started developing and manufacturing aero-engines due to WW1
  • 1971: Rolls-Royce Limited was nationalized due to the financial demise from the mismanaged development of the RB211 jet engine
  • 1973: Rolls-Royce Motors was founded and based in the United Kingdom
  • 1980: Rolls-Royce Motors acquired by Vickers
  • 1998: Rolls-Royce Motors sold to Volkswagen, but the Rolls-Royce trademark was licensed to BMW
  • 2002: Rolls-Royce vehicle production relocated to Goodwood, England
  • 2003: New Rolls-Royce Motor Cars launched and wholly owned by BMW
