Looking into a brand before purchasing a car shows that you’re a smart shopper! Typically, Honda Civics are made in Greensburg, Indiana for the American market, but they are sometimes manufactured in Canada, too.
When you do pull the trigger, you can actually
check and decode the Honda VIN
to learn where your specific Civic came from. Here’s what you need to do:
- Locate the vehicle identification number (VIN) either in the driver’s door jamb, on the dashboard, or in your registration documents
- Inspect the first digit, which lets you know the country of origin of your Civic—a 1,4, or 5 is from the United States, 2 means it’s from Canada
- Inspect the 11th digit, which lets you know the assembly plant location of your Civic—E stands for Greensburg, Indiana, while H stands for Ontario, Canada
