Where are Ford chips made?

I’ve read that the semiconductor and microchip shortage across the globe is wreaking havoc on the automotive industry, and no company is immune to it. Since I’m a Ford gal, I was wondering where exactly Ford gets its chips from. Where are Ford’s chips made?

You can breathe easy as a Ford fan. Ford has numerous partnerships with chip manufacturers around the globe depending on the market. These strategic partnerships allow Ford to maximize production and prevent delays and include the following companies:
  • STMicroelectronics and NXP Semiconductors in Europe
  • Renesas Electronics in Japan
  • Onsemi and Microchip Technology in the United States
In response to the global chip shortage, many automakers are forging new partnerships or making a move to produce the chips themselves. Ford is no different—while it’s not going to make chips in-house, it recently signed a deal with GlobalFoundries of Malta, New York, to provide additional chips. This should enable the company to avoid lags in production and keep cars affordable.
