When driving in the city, what things might help you avoid traffic?

I hate traffic so much. It’s so boring to be sitting in your car on the highway and I try to avoid it as much as possible. I’m visiting a friend in Chicago this weekend and I’m really nervous about the city traffic! What kinds of stuff can help me avoid it?

When driving in a big city there are a few things that may help you avoid traffic, including:
  • Side streets. While you probably won’t be able to enter the city using side streets, you can certainly navigate on them once you’re in the city proper. Just keep in mind that using side streets could increase your overall travel time, even if you’re not stuck in traffic.
  • Navigation apps
. Many navigation apps will warn you of upcoming traffic or reported accidents so that you can avoid them.
  • Avoiding rush hour. The best way to stay out of traffic is to stay off of the roads between the hours of 6:00 and 9:00 AM and 4:00 and 7:00 PM. Traffic is typically worse at these times because people are trying to get to or from work.
You’re also more likely to get into an accident in the big city. To make sure you and your car are protected with a good insurance policy, check out the
