When did the Toyota 5-year warranty start?

I’ve read that Toyota was one of the first companies to start a 5-year powertrain warranty, but I’m not sure when it began. What year did the 5-year Toyota warranty start?

To attract new buyers and quell the concerns of build quality, Toyota started its 5-year new car basic warranty in 1995. To date, Toyota still offers this warranty on all of its new cars. If you purchase a new Toyota, you’ll get a 5-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty on top of a 3-year, 36,000-mile basic bumper-to-bumper warranty—whichever comes first.
This puts the warranty on par with many other types of carmakers and should keep you at ease if you buy a new Toyota.
While the Toyota warranty offers plenty of protection from a plethora of issues, you should still have a savings account in case you need to pay for any repairs down the road. One great place to start saving is by reducing your
