When did seatbelts become law in Texas?

I’m helping my son write a paper for his driver’s ed class. He has to write a section about the history of driving laws in the state of Texas, so I just want to know more about seatbelt laws. When did seatbelts become mandatory in Texas?

The
Texas seat-belt law
was enacted in 1985, with 11 other states around the country following suit in that particular year. Interestingly, Texas was the fourth state to enact a seatbelt law, trailing only New York, New Jersey, and Michigan.
Today, the seat belt law in Texas states that all occupants must wear seatbelts, regardless of age or where they’re seated in the vehicle. Failure to wear a seatbelt results in a minimum fine of $50 and a maximum of $200 depending on where the infraction occurred and the age of the violator.
