Don’t worry, you’re not living under a rock, technology just moves that fast! Ford started making EVs back in 2009 at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany.
The company’s very first car was the Ford Focus BEV, a fully-electric hatchback with 76 miles (122km) of range. While that is over 13 years ago, it was only popular news in some circles. EVs have become much more popular now that many countries around the world are trying to go fully electric.
Production for the Ford Focus ended in 2018 after manufacturers discovered that its frame was built for a combustion engine vehicle instead of an electric one. Today, Ford has electrified and hybridized over eight of its models, including the Mustang Mach-E and even the F-150 Lightning.
The company still has a ways to go, but with ranges up to 320 miles (514km), it has surpassed its very first 2009 model.
