When did BMW buy Rolls-Royce?

I know that BMW and Rolls-Royce used to be separate companies, but now I think BMW owns Rolls-Royce. When did that buyout take place?

You’re right on the money! BMW bought Rolls-Royce in 1998. Rolls-Royce has been a subsidiary of BMW ever since.

during this time, as each brand attempted to buy Rolls-Royce in 1998. Prior to the buyout, BMW had signed an agreement to provide all engines, electronics, and powertrains for Rolls-Royce vehicles. Then, Volkswagen announced that it had bought a major Rolls-Royce manufacturing facility and rights to the Rolls-Royce radiator grille and the Emily design.

Once BMW heard this news, the company bought the rights to the Rolls-Royce name and logo, then pulled all of their engine, electronic, and powertrain deliveries. Eventually, BMW and Volkswagen struck a deal that allowed Volkswagen to keep the major manufacturing plant but gave BMW the rights to any Rolls-Royce cars produced.
