The 2022 CR-V 2WD has 7.8 inches of ground clearance, while the AWD model has 8.2 inches. This should be enough clearance for what is called light-duty off roading, but it’s not designed for serious off-roading.
According to the CR-V’s owners manual, drivers should not take it into extreme off-roading conditions. So what should you be looking for if you want to go off-road?
4WD. If you’re going to be in off-road situations where the ground is hilly and/or roads aren’t plowed and salted, you need 4-Wheel Drive. The Honda CR-V has All Wheel Drive, which is great on paved roads but won’t do the job on badly-rutted backcountry dirt roads.
At least 8.8 inches of clearance. The CR-V will be fine on a dirt road that’s fairly level, but drivers who tackle steep terrains, will want higher clearance.
So, if you’ll be fishing in places that require you to travel an uneven but mostly passable dirt road, you should be just fine with the CR-V. But if your best fishing spot is accessed only by taking a hilly, rocky dirt road with sections of deep mud, you’ll be better off with another type of SUV or even a truck.
