What’s the best year for a used Tahoe?

I’ve driven the same Chevy Tahoe for 20 years. Yes, really! It’s a 1999 Chevy Tahoe I bought used in 2002. I've spent as much on repairing it as buying it, and after more than 400,000 miles, this rust bucket is finally getting a retirement party. I want to buy a newer one but still get it used. What’s the best year for a used Tahoe?

Which Chevy Tahoes are best? The best years for a used Tahoe are the 2017 to 2019 models. They have great reviews and low volumes of recalls and complaints with the NHTSA.
In particular, we’ll go so far as to say 2019 is the best model year for a used Chevy Tahoe, since it has modern features but avoids some of the technical and mechanical issues of newer Tahoe models.
Let’s look at the bad years. We look at NHTSA recalls and complaints to get a bird’s eye view of a car’s quality, and based on that, we can tell you to avoid model years 2015, 2016, and 2021.
The 2015 model year is especially troublesome, with 16 recalls and 551 complaints. The 2021 model is even more worrying: it has 13 recalls and 74 complaints, both unusually high numbers for a recently released vehicle.
Newer vehicles have more advanced safety features than your old ‘99 Tahoe. So not only are these newer models safer, but that added safety can reduce your

as well. We hope your new Chevy Tahoe lasts even longer than your last one!
